Liège: for smart shoppers
Liège is 70 km from Sunparks Ardennes. Sundays are top -drawer day for seasoned market hounds. You will be rummaging around La Batte, on the banks of the river Meuse. La Batte Sunday market sells just about everything but the kitchen sink. You will find antiques alongside books, fruit and cheese.
Equally seated on the banks of the river Meuse is the Aquarium of Liège University, home to over 2,500 different seafish and freshwater fish species from all corners of the globe. There are piranhas, as well as indigenous pike. The showpiece is a tank filled with 66,000 litres of water where a pack of sharks lay down the law. While you are there, you might as well visit the Zoological museum that is housed in the same building, showcasing a whale skeleton that is a whopping 19 metres in length: anything if not impressive.
After your visit to the museum, it is time to go out and explore the city. The recently redeveloped city centre was given a huge shopping precinct, located right behind the restored front of the legendary 'Grand Bazar' at Saint-Lambert square. The centre is open from Monday through Saturday and is home to Inno, Fnac and Mediamarkt stores to name but a few.
All this shopping has not worn you out yet? Then try climbing the citadel and enjoy a splendorous view overlooking the old city quarter.
Liège is 70 km from Sunparks Ardennes. For the whole family.
