Emmen Zoo is a must for every zoo fanatic and the theme of the nearby Veenpark is the age of the peat cutters. |
130 hectares of water right in front of your doorSunparks Sandur Drenthe is right by a large leisure and water sports lake. There is everything for every taste:
You don't have to whisper in this boat. It takes its name from the quiet electric motor. Pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, surfboards and other water vehicles offer a sporting alternative. Even power kiting is an option. Also, almost all holiday villas are situated right on this lake. There is also an attractive beach right in the village. And if you like to take a walk you will find even more around the lake. |
A pure experience of nature in the moorland reserveEnjoy a superb journey of discovery in one of the few moorlands in the Netherlands. A mix of forest, moorland and meadow
At Amsterdamse Veld you will discover wild countryside that is typical of the region, with original moors and large areas of meadowland. Quite different to this is the megalithic graves route. With churches from the sede vacante period and giant tombs of secret origin. The province is a true cycling paradise with 39 well signposted themed routes. There are also 11 mountain bike routes on rough, pathless terrain. You can hire suitable bikes in the Village. |
Emmen - the largest town in the provinceMentions of the largest town in the province of Drenthe date back to the 12th century. 'De Muzeval' Theatre offers many cultural diversions.
Emmen is home to perhaps the most popular zoo in the Netherlands. Go on a journey through 6 continents. The 1.5 million visitors per year are separated from the animals by ditches only. The old centre, with its authentic streets and many little shops is also charming. Right in the market square you will find the popular De Weiert shopping centre. And nearby you can visit the former rooms where the famous artist lived. |
Across the border in no time at allWhen you are walking or going for a congenial bike ride this goes almost unnoticed. You are soon in Germany, or more precisely in Emsland.
These stone graves are of a distinctive nature: Two big blocks of stone in the ground carry a third. Today they are even to be found on the Emsland coat of arms. The natural park extends across both sides of the border, and the German part is known as Bourtanger Moor. The region's town hall was also built from big blocks of tone. The night guides show you the many historical buildings and tell you some of the unusual stories about this town on the night-time tour. |
